This position is located at Craggy Correctional Center located in Asheville, NC.  Craggy Correctional Center is a minimum and medium custody facility for approximately 590 male offenders. Work in this class involves first-line supervision to Correctional Officers in minimum-custody facilities, increasing the custody and security coverage. Positions assign lower-level custody staff to a particular area or post. Employee oversees officer activities and performance and ensure that the custody, security and welfare of offenders is maintained. Employee arranges work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implement operational procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed according to policy. Positions may at times be the highest-ranking custody staff on the grounds or the Officer-in-Charge (OIC). Positions report to a Correctional Lieutenant I and/or a Correctional Assistant Superintendent. Â

Ensures that staff is fully trained, and that proper conduct, actions and procedures are followed. Maintains facility security through regular inspections to ensure compliance with governing regulation and standards relating to facility maintenance and health and safety of offenders. Gives directions during drills, searches and in emergencies. Â May lead staff in carrying out tactical assignments. Â Responds to emergency situations, searches for escaped offenders and transports offenders. Â Conducts and/or supervises searches of offenders, their living quarters and work areas for contraband. Â Investigates and takes action, where appropriate regarding security issues, incident, disputes and complaints. Â Prepares other duties as required.Â

The salary grade for this position is NC07.  State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.  If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Salary Grade: NC07 Â Â Â Â Salary Range: $35,984.00 - $62,971.00

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience as a correctional officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
