Primary Purpose of Position :

The Development Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Development Team and oversees fundraising to meet the revenue goals of Tryon Palace as determined by the Executive Director. This position also manages the membership program, annual fund campaigns, restricted gifts, sponsorships, grants, endowments, planned giving programs and capital campaigns. The Development Manager implements and manages successful fundraising events that create engagement and meet revenue or friend-raising goals.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Supporting Tryon Palace's mission; assisting with short- and long-range strategic planning; taking the lead to reach fund-raising goals and objectives.
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the Development Team, assigning priorities to ensure a strong, ethical donor management is in place, compliant with all procedures and policies.
  • Developing, cultivating, and expanding relationships with donors, supporters and the community, to build membership, sponsorships, and public engagement.
  • Providing excellent stewardship to all donors and supporters of Tryon Palace.
  • Ensuring all donor records are kept accurate and secure, and that gifts are received and processed correctly, adhering to IRS law and the policies and procedures required by audit.
  • Facilitating Board meetings and special events.
  • Position / Physical Requirements :

  • Must have a valid driver's license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
  • Must be able to work Monday through Friday 8am - 5pm with some evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

    Qualified candidates must have or be able to :

  • Demonstrated experience fundraising with private sources for annual funds, endowments, corporate sponsorship, capital campaigns, and / or planned-giving.
  • Working knowledge of development and non-profit best practices and processes.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple employees and / or volunteers.
  • Demonstrated experience with basic accounting to accurately process and maintain expenses and generated revenue using budget tracking methods.
  • Demonstrated experience performing administrative tasks such as writing grammatically accurate communications, agendas, scheduling meetings, and / or taking meeting minutes.
  • Management Prefers :

  • Demonstrated experience with organizing and executing successful fundraisers.
  • Established professional with Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) certification.
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge donor management software.
  • Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, business, or a related degree from an appropriately accredited institution

  • three years of experience in public relations, communications or fund-raising;

    Section / Unit Description :

    The Tryon Palace Development Office works to build rapport and engagement with the donors and contributors, manages fundraising efforts, and facilitates grant-writing efforts to support the overall mission of Tryon Palace. The Development Team is part of the Tryon Palace Public Affairs Branch and works within its overall strategy to provide institutional outreach to the community, state, and nation, that is educational and engaging. The Development Team works closely with the Public Affairs Director to engage the public with Tryon Palace by building awareness and support of Tryon Palace's mission, programs and exhibits, and develop relationships with supporters.
