This position supports the Division 6 / Whiteville Resident Engineer’s Office and will serve as Survey Party Chief. Duties include performing survey work on complex construction projects, supervising survey crews and lower-level technicians, making independent decisions, and communicating effectively with co-workers, contractor's personnel, and the general public. When contract surveying is utilized, the Survey Party Chief will be responsible for reviewing the contractor’s survey submittals and providing checks of their construction layouts in the field. Ability to read, interpret, and explain such things as construction plans, contract provisions, and specification/inspection procedures- Experience using surveying equipment, instruments, levels, data collectors and GPS equipment.
- Experience with mathematical functions including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Experience in performing highway construction stakeouts.
- Experience in conducting independent, moderately complex surveying.
- Computer experience including office and drafting software.
Additional Expectations:
Promote safe working environment. Ability to withstand extreme weather and terrain conditions while performing duties. Ability to work in close proximity of high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment. The selected candidate will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe shoes required.

Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology or Survey Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and (7) seven years of progressive technician experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
