This is a permanent, full-time, 12-month position. This is position's work schedule is Monday – Friday, rotating shifts 6:00 a.m. until 2:30 pm. Or 10:00 am until 6:30 pm. Occasional weekend work required.
MAXIMUM SALARY AVAILABLE TO BE OFFERED FOR THIS POSITION BASED ON QUALIFICATIONS IS $36,343.00
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for a Food Service/Child Nutrition Assistant for the Governor Morehead School for the Blind (GMS). GMS is a residential school, responsible for providing educational instruction to visually impaired students in grades K-12 from across North Carolina.
The Governor Morehead School Food Service Department serves three nutritional meals a day Monday through Friday to Governor Morehead School students (K-12) and Wake Young Women's Leadership Academy, DSB, Vocational Center Adult clients. These meals must meet any special dietary needs required by students and clients. In addition to Breakfast, Lunch and Supper, snacks and special foods are also provided to students and clients as requested or required.
This position is responsible for assisting in the preparation and service of food to students, staff and clients. Additionally, this position is responsible for providing cleaning activities which facilitate good sanitation and food safety operations. Job duties may include but are not limited to:
- Prepare dining room and cafeteria area for meal service with proper table and line set up and sanitation.
- Serve food to students, clients and staff throughout mealtime.
- Prepare special diets for students and clients.
- Prepare cold food prep, including but not limited to salad bar, prepare setup and sandwich prep, picnic, food requests, grocery requests & cottage snacks.
- Perform daily cleaning duties (i.e., dining room and restrooms).

- Experience preparing OR serving food in a commercial facility (Examples: fast food, restaurant chain, etc.).
- Basic knowledge of food safety and/or sanitation guidelines.
- Basic knowledge of preparation, cooking and baking procedures.
- Documented experience to perform moderately heavy physical labor (40lbs).
NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to pass Criminal Background Check.
- Must be able to pass drug screening.
Education and/or experience in food service that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade.
