Broughton Hospital's population includes Forensic patients whose legal status is primarily "Incapable to Proceed" to trial. This position serves as a team leader for a multi-discipline treatment team (serving Forensic patients) to ensure quality patient care, including competency restoration treatment. The Forensic Psychiatrist will provide competency re-evaluations to determine an individual's capacity to proceed to trial or a determination of non-restorability.
Responsibilities include:
- Initial psychiatric assessment and diagnosis of patients upon admission, development of comprehensive treatment plans
- Serve on medical staff committees
- Managing the day-to-day responsibilities of an inpatient unit to include documentation of patient progress in medical records and court papers, as well as the education of patients/families and provision of educational groups for patients.
This position works with a varied group of professional disciplines and may coordinate clinical training and research efforts.

**Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus
Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:
- A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).
- The employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);
- The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;
- Or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
