The North Carolina Department of Labor is charged by statute with promoting the health, safety and general well-being of the workers in the state. The laws and programs the Department administers affect every worker in the state. The Department is organized into three primary divisions which carry out the Department's principle regulatory, enforcement and promotional programs, and the administrative operations. The three primary divisions have divisions, bureaus and offices under each, which carry out the specific and specialized portions of the NCDOL mission. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Deputy Information Technology Director within the Department of Labor (DOL). This position will assist the IT Director to provide DOL and all its divisions / bureaus with highly intricate information technology support for the conception, design, engineering and acquisition of all information technology hardware and software. The Deputy IT Director will make recommendations to policy decisions that will set the overall direction for the work unit. Position will have significant input into the strategic direction of the work unit. The position will supervise support team members, serve as the primary administrator for the OSHA Express, OnBase application as well as working with other growing internal application within the department. The position will assist in identifying needed resources, recommended hardware and software, and procure training as needed.
This position is an in-office position, and the selected candidate will be required to work in the Labor bldg. Monday-Friday. Daily work hours may be set within the range of 7am to 6 : 30pm with 8-hour days scheduled each day. Schedule flexibility, including flex hours or pre-approved occasional telework days may be approved at the discretion of the division director.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
A thorough knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, Networking, telecommunication and departmental office software including Microsoft 365.
Thorough and high degree of knowledge of OSHA Express program and OnBase document management system.
Excellent communication skills.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in computer science or an IT related field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of progressive experience in the information technology field; or Associate's degree in computer science or an IT related field or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of progressive experience in the information technology field; or High School or GED and eight years of progressive experience in the information technology field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
