Description of Work
The Judicial Division Director (JDD) is responsible for all aspects of operations. The JDD is responsible for statewide development, implementation, analysis and on-going evaluation of field operations and offender supervision. Position provides direction related to a wide variety of policies pertaining to offender supervision, officer safety, public safety, program services, special operations.
The JDD is also responsible for all fiscal and budgetary controls for the division, including property lease oversight, purchasing contract and vendor compliance, and fleet management.
In addition, the JDD is responsible for CJ Standards training and policy compliance, independently managing all aspects of training within a judicial division.
The JDD handles human resources management for the division. This includes recruitment oversight, employee investigations, disciplinary actions, employee relations, health & benefits oversight, and ensuring compliance with federal, state and agency labor and employment laws as well as agency policy and procedures.
The JDD will assist in responding to inquiries from entities that may include the governor's office, general assembly staff, legislators, judges, secretary's office, and management within the section. Position will serve as a member of the Division of Community Supervision (DCS) leadership team and will represent DCS at events such as committee and council meetings.
Responsibilities of the Judicial Division Director (JDD) include :
- Providing leadership, management and direction to senior level staff and input in the development and design of new and innovative programs
- Identifying areas of improvement and establish methods to implement and measure efficient improvement strategies
- Reviewing goals and work progress with management team and approving interim supervision / action plans; understand caseload numbers, the dynamics of various sanctions, and unique needs of individual county courts and districts
- Making site visits to the judicial districts and field probation offices, and participating in stakeholder meetings to ensure the agency's mission is being promoted and upheld; understanding offender treatment resources available through the communities within the division
- Making internal organizational changes based on caseload analysis, legislative mandates, and operational priorities.
- Reviewing reports and internal audits and providing feedback to appropriate persons
- Setting and reviewing work standards when considering requests for policy modifications / exceptions
Position will collaborate with the DCS leadership and also provide independent oversight in the areas of :
