What are the responsibilities and job description for the Licensed Mental Health Professional - Rockingham Youth Development Center position at State of North Carolina?
This position is located at Rockingham Youth Development Center, a secure facility in Reidsville NC (Rockingham County), with an overall mission to provide committed juveniles with a safe, secure environment that fosters healthy decision-making and personal responsibility.
The primary purpose of these positions is to provide mental health services for juveniles assigned to a Youth Development Center and/or Juvenile Detention Center. These services include, but are not limited to, mental status examinations, diagnostic evaluations and behavioral assessments, behavioral programming, individual and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention and direct counseling services at an advanced level. Will provide training as needed.
The positions will be responsible for the following:
New Admission Screening and Evaluation
Perform an evidence-based mental health screening for assigned new admissions. Document completion of the screening in NC-JOIN. Complete a clinical interview and mental status exam. Complete a mental health evaluation report. Document results in the Mental Health Practice Management System.
Mental Health Treatment
Complete a mental health treatment plan for each assigned new admission. Provide psychotherapeutic treatment as indicated. Document the plan within 30 days of admission and treatment progress of each intervention session in the Mental Health Practice Management System. Crisis assessment and intervention.
Criminogenic Needs Identification and Targeting
Identify prominent dynamic factors that affect the youth’s risk for recidivism within 30 days of admission. Provide individual and group treatment targeting criminogenic needs to assigned youth. Assess for measurable improvement upon review of criminogenic needs.
Training/Continuing Education
Provide training to staff as needed.
Attend continuing education seminars/workshops commensurate with scope and requirements of professional practice. Complete required trainings in the DPS Learning Management System.

To qualify for this position, applicants must demonstrate ALL of the following KSAs:
- Demonstrated experience of psychological, emotional and/or interpersonal dynamics that contribute to distress and mental health diagnosis.
- Knowledge of population being served, available resources, governmental and private organizations, resources in the community, and/or the laws, regulations, and/or policies which govern the program.
- Experience with professional clinical counseling methodology, casework, group work and/or community support.
- Experience in evaluating, screening and diagnosing clients for appropriate treatment; formulating clear goal-oriented treatment plans and/or documenting progress of client treatment.
- Working knowledge of social, cultural and/or economic issues affecting clients.

Master's degree in psychology, clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, clinical counseling or human services related field from an appropriately accredited educational institution.
Necessary Special Qualification Requirements:
Must hold an independent license to practice as a mental health clinical practitioner in North Carolina.
Must be licensed in one of the following:
- Health Services Provider – Psychologist (HSP-P)
- Licensed Psychologist (LP)
- Licensed Psychological Associate (LPA)
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associates (LCSW-A)
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associates (LMFT-A)
- Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC)
- Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associates (LCMHC-A)
- Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS) – must also have one other listed license
