The NC Department of Environmental Quality trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management. These Marine Patrol Investigators are to perform the most difficult and complex law enforcement activities through planning, directing and independently conducting investigations of persons and or parties who are suspected of offenses against the criminal laws administered by the Marine Fisheries Commission (MFC). These positions will also conduct difficult and complex law enforcement activities which involve the most sensitive and discrete handling of cases. Case handling includes surveillance; participating in serving of warrants, interviewing witnesses; interrogating suspects, searching for physical evidence; conducting seizures, making arrests; developing evidence for orderly presentation in court, testifying in courts; and preparing detailed reports. These positions will report to the Marine Fisheries Law Enforcement Supervisor and will work remotely but will be required to report to various office locations for meetings and/or to perform various on-site duties. These positions will require the incumbent to travel as the geographical area of responsibility is eastern North Carolina including the western part of the state. These investigators must exercise a high degree of initiative in developing information or evidence for long-range investigations. Additionally, these investigators will work closely with local, state, and federal agencies for the purposes of obtaining, securing, or exchanging factual information. The incumbents for these positions must be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently. Key Responsibilities: Coordinate Notice of ViolationsFisheries and internal investigationsConduct background investigations for LEO applicantsOversee inspections of the western part of the state (dealer & retail markets)Serve as Marine Patrol liaison to all division sections for compliance issuesReview quota monitoring, license and permits for Marine Fisheries Compliance The Division of Marine FisheriesThe North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) is responsible for the stewardship of the state’s marine and estuarine resources. The DMF’s jurisdiction encompasses all coastal waters and extends to 3 miles offshore. Agency policies are established by the nine-member Marine Fisheries Commission and the Secretary of the Department of Environmental Quality. North Carolina is a member of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council, the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council, and the National Shellfish Sanitation Program. To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL the following: Must possess a Basic Law Enforcement Certification under North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission. Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.Experience in the operation of a patrol vessel.Applicants who were born after January 1, 1988, must comply with the requirements for boating safety education, General Statute 75A-16.2.
