Are you a college student (or recent college graduate) seeking an internship for the Summer of 2025? If so, please continue reading to learn more about this exciting opportunity.

This internship is expected to start on May 19, 2025, and continue through July 25, 2025. The work schedule is part-time in the EVENINGS (up to 30 hours per week), Monday - Friday. We value our employees and are committed to providing flexibility in work schedules. This position qualifies for teleworking on a part-time basis as part of the State Telework Program. The position is Hybrid with some In-Person (Raleigh) and some Virtual work.   

Please Note: Significant travel across North Carolina is required to events as scheduled, especially during the June Week of Action.

Specific responsibilities for the NC S.A.F.E Intern for Juvenile Justice will include:
  • Identifying clubs in high schools across the state that perform volunteer work, establish relationships, perform outreach to secure volunteers, brief interested parties on the campaign message and available resources. 
  • Traveling to events to coordinate campaign resources at the event and deliver the NC S.A.F.E. message. 
  • Attending meetings and contributing to the planning process for future initiatives within the campaign, while learning marketing approaches, viewing analytics, and responding to any course correction offered through feedback received from the public and other state agencies.
  • Establishing a high school program/club contact in each NC county to facilitate volunteers to staff NC S.A.F.E. tables.
  • Staffing NC S.A.F.E. information tables at 15-30 events, including distributing gun locks and informational materials to gun owners concerning safe storage. 
  • Learning marketing components in delivering a public health campaign statewide through participation in meetings, planning, and content delivery across multiple platforms.

To qualify for this position, applicants must demonstrate ALL of the following KSAs:  

  • Skill in conveying a message and answering related questions in person, on the phone, and virtually
  • Skilled in managing a project to ensure the desired outcome is achieved
  • An interest in reducing firearm related deaths and injury

This internship is for applicants currently pursuing a degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Public Relations, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or Human Resources. Recent graduates within the last 6 months will also be considered.

Military Experience  

  • Applicants seeking Veteran's Preference must attach a DD-214 Form (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty that includes Character of Discharge - Member 4 or Service 2 form) to the application.
  • Applicants seeking National Guard Preference: 
    • current member of the North Carolina National Guard in good standing must attach a NGB 23A (RPAS)
    • A former member of the North Carolina National Guard who served for at least 6 years and were discharged under honorable conditions, must attach either a DD256 or NGB 22.
