Description of Work

  • We will be recruiting for two (2) positions with this post. The positions are 60043298 and 60037971. Your application will be considered for all open positions.

The Onboarding Specialist plays a key role in facilitating the onboarding process for new hires, ensuring a smooth and efficient transition into the organization. This position is responsible for managing pre-hire activities, communicating with incoming employees, and processing all necessary hiring actions in the HRIS system. In addition to handling the administrative aspects of onboarding, the Onboarding Specialist supports the delivery of agency-required orientations and training for new hires. They work independently while adhering to HR policies and procedures, contributing to an organized, welcoming, and compliant onboarding experience for all employees.

This role also involves managing internal hiring and talent mobility actions, such as transfers and promotions, as well as ensuring compliance with relevant HR laws. The Onboarding Specialist will collaborate with other HR professionals and present information to large groups, enhancing the onboarding experience. They will also work closely with hiring managers to confirm pre-hire activities and requirements. This is a full-time position requiring strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.

Key Duties :

  • Manage the onboarding process for new hires, ensuring all pre-hire activities are completed.
  • Communicate with incoming employees to confirm pre-hire activities and week 1 requirements.
  • Process all hiring actions in the HR Information System (HRIS).
  • Handle internal hiring actions, including transfers, promotions, and talent mobility.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state HR laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Present information to large groups and facilitate onboarding-related meetings.
  • Provide guidance to employees and answer HR-related questions.
  • Maintain and update relevant HR documents and records for compliance and audit purposes.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to confirm onboarding requirements and ensure smooth transitions.

  • Documented experience applying an understanding of HR laws, policies, and procedures, with a track record of ensuring compliance in HR processes.
  • Management Preferences :

  • Proven experience in managing the onboarding process, including pre-hire activities such as I-9, background checks, fingerprinting and drug screening.
  • Previous experience with BEACON / Fiori systems
  • Documented experience working for the the State of North Carolina Government

  • Associate's degree, typically in Human Resources or relevant field from an appropriately accredited institution and 1 year of experience required;
