This part-time temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Transportation - DMV. The Medical Review Board Physician will serve in a mission critical position. The Medical Review Unit is the arm of Customer Compliance Services that is responsible for gathering and evaluating medical data of licensed drivers or applicants for driver licenses in the State of North Carolina, who are currently suffering from a medical condition that could negatively impact their ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. There are currently over 170,000 citizens in the Medical Review Program that require follow-up at varying intervals. Over 21,000 reviews are conducted each year and the Medical Review Board conducts approximately 600 in-person hearings each year. The employees in the Medical Review Unit perform a variety of duties. Those citizens whose driving privilege is restricted or cancelled have a legal right per NCGS 20-9 to appeal the Unit's decision by requesting a hearing before a board comprising of licensed medical professionals.[NOTE: Qualified applicants must meet and CLEARLY reflect on their application training and experience and all knowledge, skills, abilities and any experience or competencies specified in posting and/or supplemental question(s) to be considered. - Thorough knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of general, preventive medicine and of the techniques involved
- Thorough knowledge of biological, social, and psychological developmental processes at all ages
- Thorough knowledge of the practice and theories of the medical specialty or subspecialty to which assigned
- Ability to assess and interpret laboratory results, clinical data and information relative to the patient’s condition
- Ability to compile clear and concise notes for patient's charts and to make oral presentations of cases in medical conferences
