What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plumber position at State of North Carolina?

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for a Plumber for the Governor Morehead School for the Blind (GMS). Governor Morehead School is a residential school, responsible for providing educational instruction to visually impaired students in grades K-12 from across North Carolina.
This position performs journey level work in the plumbing trade, and at least one other trade such as pipefitting, welding, or steam equipment repair. Performs a wide range of plumbing system repairs in a variety of applications including repairs of water mains, sewer systems, steam systems and components, pumps, heat exchangers and controls, domestic water heaters, condensate pumping units, to include pump repair and maintenance. This position is expected to fulfill on-call assignments and is considered an essential/mandatory employee during times of adverse weather. Must have a valid North Carolina Driver's License. The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Knowledge of utility piping systems; knowledge of practices and principles of the NC Building Code for plumbing systems; ability to work from construction drawings; skilled in the use of related trade tools and equipment; physically able to work in confined spaces.

- Ability to operate the more common types of machine shop or power equipment.

- Ability to read and interpret building codes.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to plan projects, assign tasks, and ensure project deadlines are met.
- Physical strength sufficient to perform heavy physical tasks for extended periods of time.
NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to pass Criminal Background Check.
- Must be able to pass drug screening.
High school or General Educational Development diploma and two (2) years of experience in the performance of the full range of journey level tasks associated with two (2) or more highly complex mechanical or building trades
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Management Preferences: Management prefers a candidate with at least 3 years of progressive experience in commercial plumbing. Experience with pump repair and maintenance, steam repair and/or pipefitting experience. Additional skills at the journey level in electrical or other mechanical trade.
Physical Requirements: HEAVY WORK - Exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and /or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and /or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Work may be performed outside during all types of weather conditions. Position must be capable of working from elevated work platforms up to 60 feet in height. Able to work in small and confined spaces; ability to work on ladders for extended periods of time.
