Description of Work

This position is part of Forensic Services which currently performs Court-ordered forensic evaluations, provides consultation to Broughton treatment teams regarding forensic evaluation and forensic issues, and assists with the capacity restoration program. Duties include conducting forensic evaluations of capacity to proceed and other evaluations as requested, writing forensic consultation and evaluation reports; testifying as an expert witness; providing consultation and education to treatment teams and other clinical staff as needed; working in coordination with other clinical departments to develop and provide training to Broughton staff in the provision of capacity restoration treatment; and serving as a faculty member of the APA-Accredited Predoctoral Internship Program.

    Broughton Hospital , a state psychiatric hospital serving the Western Region of North Carolina, is recruiting for full-time Forensic Psychologist Senior .

    This position is part of Forensic Services which currently performs Court-ordered forensic evaluations, provides consultation to Broughton treatment teams regarding forensic evaluation and forensic issues, and is heavily involved in providing training for clinicians that facilitate groups and individual services as part of the capacity restoration program.

    Duties include :

  • Coordinating with various clinical departments in the administration of Broughton Hospital's Capacity Restoration Program by developing resources and training.
  • Conducting forensic evaluations of capacity to proceed and other evaluations as requested.
  • Writing forensic consultation and evaluation reports.
  • Testifying as an expert witness; providing consultation and education to treatment teams and other clinical staff as needed.
  • Serving as a faculty member of the APA-Accredited Predoctoral Internship Program.
  • This position requires a subject-matter expertise in clinical and health services psychology, possession of extensive and expert knowledge of psychopathology, models of psychotherapy, professional ethics, models of supervision, and psychological assessment. The person in this position will act independently and make sound clinical decisions even in some of the most complicated cases. This individual will deliver services to a wide range of patients in an effective, safe, and culturally sensitive manner. The Psychologist Senior must be thoroughly skilled in interviewing and testing adults in a forensic context. Acquisition of a working knowledge of North Carolina's criminal justice system is required. In addition, this position must be able to interact with tact and diplomacy with a wide array of people under contentious situations. While flexibility in work hours is required, the current regular work hours are

    Monday through Friday from 8 : 00 am to 5 : 00 pm.

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Experience in the Specialty Practice of Forensic Psychology, sufficient to meet the American Psychological Association standards for practice in a specialty
  • Basic knowledge of NC Psychology Practice Act and Amendments
  • Management preferences :

  • Two years of experience in Forensic Evaluation of individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses is strongly preferred.
  • Two years of post-doctoral psychological experience, which includes advanced clinical treatment, consultation, training and research is preferred.
  • Possession of a current North Carolina license to practice as a Licensed Psychologist / Health Services Provider Psychologist (HSPP) by the time duties begin
  • Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    Eligibility for licensure in North Carolina under the provisions of the NC Psychology Practice Act (G.S. 90270) and two years of professional psychological experience, one of which must be postdoctoral. Refer to the law for specifics regarding experience requirements.

Our hospital serves the western thirty-seven (37) counties of North Carolina, as part of the state's system of care and treatment for persons with mental illness.
