The Border Belt Tobacco Research Station, in Whiteville, is hiring an Agricultural Research Specialist to support work in an agricultural research environment. This employee will work directly with project leaders to assist with soil preparation, planting, harvesting, irrigation, and plot maintenance, as well as general maintenance of farm equipment and general facility maintenance.
Other functions of this position are:
- Supervisory responsibility over a team of Research Technicians, as well as seasonal and temporary staff.
- Provide administrative and public relations support.
- Human resources management for assigned staff.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
- Considerable knowledge of agricultural crop production.
- General understanding of research principles and methods.
- General understanding of the setup, operation, calibration, and maintenance of equipment used in agricultural and horticultural production.
- Excellent communication skills to supervise a diverse workforce.
- Possesses effective oral and written communication and computer software skills.
- Ability to perform long periods of repetitive reaching, stooping, standing, bending, and lifting of 50 lbs.
- Valid driver’s license
- Forklift Driver Certificate
- Public Pesticide Applicator License
