DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Based on the difficulty and shortage of Skilled, Highly Qualified teachers, we are designating a sign on bonus amount of $7500 for 115c licensed educators whose primary duties are classroom instruction. - Knowledge and understanding regarding functioning, behaviors, needs, problems and attitudes of children who are deaf/hard of hearing including children who are deaf or hard of hearing who may have additional disabilities.
- Knowledge of child development and ability to develop rapport with children
- Comprehension and implementation of curricular objectives
- Create and implement appropriate daily lesson plans
- Understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
- Exercise good judgment in observing and recording behaviors, academic progress, etc.
- Possess long and short-term memory
- Possess strong mental concentration with quick change from one task to another
- Analyze situations and make decisions.
- Maintain high standards of personal cleanliness
- Perform simple mathematical computations
- General Knowledge of state and federal laws, division, and school policies
- Perform duties that require close visual attention for lengthy periods of time (i.e. typing, proofing, computer operation, etc.
- Considerable knowledge of word processing skills, spread sheeting, and database creation and maintenance
ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS OF THE POSITION:
MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES:
- Preference will be given to license holders who are credential to teach deaf/hard of hearing students.
- Management will give preference to candidates:
- Ability to use American Sign Language to effectively communicate with deaf students and/or their parents/guardians and other deaf staff. The successful applicant may be required to become proficient in American Sign Language within a reasonable time as a condition of continued employment.
- Trade skills in auto mechanics instruction, welding, drafting, or wood working opportunities for students. This can be a single skill or encompass multiple skill levels listed above.
Candidates must hold a NC Teaching License in the appropriate content area.

Certified Educator Salary Schedules include teachers, certified instructional support and school based administrators.
All certified educators working at NC School for the Deaf are required to be paid from the legislated salary schedule. This schedule is approved annually by the NC General Assembly and sets a minimum pay based on the educator's years of experience and education level. Any employment offer may be less than the maximum of the range due to salary equity with similarly-situated employees or the selected candidate's related education and experience.
