Description of Work
This position serves as a Materials and Tests Unit’s Section Materials Technician that covers Division 14. The Section Materials Technician is responsible for sampling, testing, and inspecting materials on highway construction projects throughout the assigned Division in order to assure that they meet prescribed standards and specifications. This position is also responsible for performing assessments of producer/contractor technicians to ensure that they are performing quality control and acceptance testing properly according to prescribed standards and specifications. It provides instruction in the Department’s certification programs.

Management prefers applicants with knowledge and experience and certification in sampling and testing asphalt, aggregate, concrete and soils materials used in highway construction. They also prefer applicants with knowledge and experience with HiCAMS database.
Must have the ability to safely navigate hazardous work situations at highway construction projects and material/product stockpiles while following established in-house safety procedures.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
