The Julian F. Keith Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center in Black Mountain  is currently accepting applications for a Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor position. The primary purpose of the Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor is to develop and implement the primary therapeutic treatment of the patient.  

Who we are: JFKADATC is a 72-bed inpatient treatment facility designed to meet the needs of adults with substance use disorders from the 44 westernmost counties in North Carolina.

What we do: The facility treats adults with substance use disorders and psychiatric diagnoses.  JFK is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations as a Behavioral Health facility and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as an inpatient psychiatric hospital.

What you will do: The Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor is primarily responsible for provision of assessments, case management, continuing care and follow up, crisis intervention, individual and group therapy and family education for ADATC patients.   Management will consider a trainee (LCASA), if no fully qualified applicants apply.  Applicant must be licensed or licensed eligible.

This position will work in Acute Rehab Services and is scheduled for Monday - Friday
 typically working from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

 About the facility:  JFK-ADATC is a 68-bed inpatient treatment facility designed to meet the needs of adults with substance use disorders from the 44 westernmost counties in North Carolina.  The facility treats individuals with substance abuse and psychiatric diagnoses.  We are accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations as a Behavioral Health facility and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as an inpatient psychiatric hospital.  Our treatment program focuses on individualized acute rehab services and detox/crisis stabilization. Coordination of treatment is provided through small interdisciplinary treatment teams consisting of representatives from counseling, nursing, recreation therapy, medical/psychiatric, psychological, social work, and substance abuse education departments.

Qualified applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:


  1. •Considerable experience and skill creating patient assessments

  2. •Demonstrated ability to create, implement and supervise patient treatment planning

  3. •Thorough knowledge of case management policies and procedures gained through previous work experience

  4. •Experience with independent planning, organizing, and facilitating discharge planning

  5. •Documented experience facilitating group therapy for adults who use substances

 Minimum Education and Experience:

  • A Master’s degree in counseling or related human services field from an accredited school AND 

  • At least 2 years of supervised counseling experience. LCAS required;  


LCASA considered upon review. Working knowledge of addiction, substance abuse counseling practice models; mental health policy and models of treatment; cultural diversity and its impact on treatment; and knowledge of mental health laws are considered requisite for this position.  Management will consider a LCASA (trainee) if no fully qualified applicants apply. 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements for Trainee Appointment - Master's degree from an appropriately accredited school.

 

Management Preferences:

  • Training in motivational interviewing and trauma informed care.  

  • Experience working with substance use disorders and/or psychiatric disorders
