Consider this opportunity with the North Carolina State Capitol Police.This Telecommunicator position works to understand and interpret incoming communications and dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency units. Telecommunicators receive emergency and non-emergency calls, monitor alarms, security cameras, alerts, and other emergency inputs and react accordingly. Individuals in this role liaise between the public and public safety officials.Job duties of this position include: Dispatching officers to calls at state-owned buildings and lotsOperating, reviewing, and inputting data into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, Division of Criminal Information (DCI) system, eWarrants, and CJLeadsMonitoring and operating state-wide alarm software while dispatching responders to appropriate sitesRecording information and statistics including upkeeping recordsAnswering and transferring calls to appropriate agencies and personnelMonitoring and utilizing multi-channel radio softwareInterpreting and relaying information to field personnel concerning wanted persons, violations of laws, and other criminal activitiesMaking immediate decisions on a wide variety of information received through various sources and disseminating this information to field personnel, agency officials, and other law enforcement agencies as appropriateResearching information including phone numbers, directions, criminal histories, and driving histories using resources such as the court systems, internet, and Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Entering warrants and stolen property into CJISActing as backup to law enforcement officers with statewide to local jurisdiction, including the State Highway Patrol, civil defense officials, the Department of Transportation, and local law enforcement officialsThis position requires the ability to: Work in shifts and some weekends and holidays as needed at the discretion of the DirectorOperate in a work environment with high-stress situations requiring sound decision making skillsProvide coverage during weather and other emergencies including working in communications centers during emergencies or search and rescue operationsOperate telephones or perform other administrative duties as neededThis is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits, including paid vacation, paid sick leave, paid holidays, retirement, and health insurance. To view an example of total compensation, please click here NC OSHR: Total Compensation Calculator.About State Capitol Police: The mission of State Capitol Police is to provide police protection and security for state employees and visitors as well as state owned and leased property; to conduct crime prevention and employee safety programs; to provide investigatory services for criminal activities occurring on state government property to provide executive protection for federal, state, and local government officials and other visiting dignitaries to state property; to monitor fire and intrusion alarms; and to notify appropriate resources for incidences such as fire, broken water lines, power failure and malfunctioning mechanical equipment during both business and non-business hours.
