What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Speech and Language Pathologist position at State of North Carolina?
J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center is looking to hire two employees, through Temporary Solutions, to work as Speech and Language Pathologists (SLP).
The Speech and Language Pathologist serves as a member of assigned homes’ interdisciplinary teams with primary responsibilities of facilitating communication and maximizing swallowing safety for the individuals residing in those homes. Through direct and indirect services, the SLP provides evaluation, direct treatment, program planning, in-service training and consultation with staff to ensure integration of services and maintains records and documentation. Overall, the SLP plays an integral role in the Person-Centered Planning process and, through prescribed supports and strategies, serves to maximize individuals’ independence in daily routines and activities. This position fulfills the Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disability (ICF/ID) standards requiring that services described above are provided by qualified personnel.
This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.
Salary Grade MH17; $29.10 - $48.01

Management Preferences:
- ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence.
- Work experiences with individuals with intellectual / developmental disabilities (IDD), to include any or all of the following: autism, basic knowledge of aided (low - high tech) and unaided communication systems, and dysphagia.
- Has knowledge in communication / speech-language and its disorders, including dysphagia.
- Has ability to administer and interpret asessements to determine the range, nature and / or degree of an individual's communication skills.
- Has ability to formulate and implement appropriate communication / speech-language goals and intervention procedures.
- Has knowledge in the range of augmentative communication and assistive technology systems (picture based systems, basic manual signs, speech generating devices, etc.).
- Has strong interpersonal skills that support being a positive and active member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Has excellent oral and written communication skills.
Licensed by the Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologist.
Degrees must be from appropriately accredited colleges or universities.
