- Posting is for two Transportation Worker III positions located in the Division 8 Roadside Environmental Unit. Position Nos. 60020496 and 60020500 will be filled from this posting. You only need to apply once to be considered for both positions. Positions are located in Moore County but will be subject to work in all eight counties of Division 8. Positions are mainly in the operational area of managing vegetation through the use of herbicides along rights-of-way, to include dormant stem & in-season brush control, turfgrass treatments, guardrail & cable spraying, and invasive weed treatments. Positions will assist in seeding / mulching, erosion control, plant bed and wildflower maintenance. The work involves installing erosion control, mowing, and maintaining plant material along NCDOT rights-of-way. The work also includes operation, inspection, and maintenance of equipment, including trucks, tractors, tractor attachments, mulch blower, and other similar equipment, as well as hand and power tools. Person hired into position will be expected to communicate work plans with supervisors and subordinates. Work will require exposure to all types of weather conditions and the ability to work on uneven surfaces and slopes. Work may include lifting up to 50lbs repeatedly and exerting up 100lbs of force occasionally. This position is subject to emergency call back, scheduled night work, work during non-traditional hours such as weekends or holidays, adverse weather, or other extreme circumstances. Selected candidate must be able to obtain NCDA&CS Pesticide Applicators' License with Right of Way endorsements within 90 days of hire into this position.Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following :
- Knowledge of vegetation management including but not limited to shrubs, trees, fertilizer, etc. using sound horticultural practices
- Experience in correctly applying herbicides and pesticides in accordance with the label, as well as proper storage and disposal techniques
- Experience operating equipment designed for all aspects of landscape operations
- Experience in operation of pesticide applicator, truck, tractors, and utility vehicles
- Experience leading subordinates and directing the daily activities of a work crewAdditional Expectations : Ability to perform assigned tasks and follow oral and written instructions as directed by supervisor. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License with the ability to operate both manual and automatic transmissions. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver's License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Release forms ALCDRG-01 and ALCDRG-06 must be signed allowing NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol.
