Salary Grade: NC14 Salary Range: $50,633.00 - $88,607.00

This posting is for a Vehicle/Equipment Repair Supervisor I (VERS I) in Henderson County Equipment Shop. This position supervises vehicle/equipment repair technicians, mechanics, helpers, and other semi-skilled trades personnel that perform small engine, automotive, and heavy equipment.

Responsible for determining the type and extent of repair work to be completed and scheduling vehicles/equipment for service/repair. Work also includes establishing general time limits for maintenance or repair work; making repair assignments; and determining the extent of any additional repair work to be done. Inspect work upon completion to determine that necessary repairs have been made, and that vehicles and/or equipment are in proper operating condition; prepare work reports on maintenance/repair work done.

Work is performed in accordance with established practices and departmental procedures and policies and evaluated through operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities / Competencies

  • Experience in inventory management including parts, fuel, and lube commodities
  • Experience using SAP to receive, inventory, and bill parts, fuel and lubes
  • Experience in safety policies and procedures as they apply to shop function including a basic knowledge of OSHA requirements.
  • Experience in applying best practices as it relates to protection of the environment

Observes and assesses work, provides feedback; establishes a culture of safety for employees and ensures that work processes are free from safety and health hazards, and the employees are properly trained. Class A CDL required with N endorsement. Safety toe footwear is required.

Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire.

The selected candidate must be able to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the repair of vehicles and/or equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.
