The Auto Body Mechanic restores damaged and outdated State Highway Patrol vehicles for return to service. This position provides hands-on repair of all damaged Patrol vehicles from body realignment to paint/finish application, which includes replacing broken glass and water-resistant seals on vehicles. The work location is Support Services - X7 Logistics Auto Body Shop in Raleigh, NC (Wake County).
Job duties/responsibilities include the following:
- Repairing vehicles (repairing dents, filling damaged antenna and blue light mounting holes, replacing parts that are damaged beyond repair, etc.).
- Removing and replacing damaged body panels (rocker panel, quarter panel, radiator support, roof, frame, etc.) and realigning these replacement parts to match original alignment characteristics.
- Replacing damaged power accessories (window switches and motors, door locks, remote mirrors, power seats, trunk locks, etc.).
- Repainting vehicles inside and out to return the paint finish to its original appearance.
- Finish detailing (buffing, sanding, re-decaling, etc.).
- Replacing glass (windshields, damaged glass, water leaks, etc.).
- Restoring out-of-service vehicles which have been turned in (i.e. repairing holes following antenna or light bar removal, dents, and tears in rubber bumper covers, removing decals, etc.).
- Restoring older vehicles, filing cabinets, and other equipment that require paint and body restoration.
- Maintaining shop cleanliness and organization of tools and equipment.
- Understanding the strength and malleability of metals.
- Reading and comprehending repair manuals.
- Performing a number of varying and diverse assignments including troubleshooting complex vehicle repairs using the proper tools, resources, equipment, and training.

To qualify for this position, applicants must demonstrate ALL of the following KSAs:
- Experience removing, replacing and/or realigning damaged auto body panels (e.g. rocker panel, quarter panel, radiator support, roof and frame).
- Experience with/knowledge of tools and/or equipment used to repair and/or replace automotive bodies and/or parts.
- Experience repainting and/or detailing vehicles post-repair.
- Current NC Inspector's License.
- Current/previous experience with State Highway Patrol body work.
- Experience repairing and/or replacing damaged power accessories (such as window switches and motors, door locks, remote mirrors, power seats and trunk locks).
- Experience repairing and/or replacing vehicle glass.
- Previous automotive dealership experience.
PLEASE NOTE: Qualified recommended applicant(s) must undergo and successfully pass a Criminal Background Investigation including a Drug Screening Test. Possession of a valid Driver's License by the date of hire is also required.
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of experience in the area of assignment, or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience in the repair work to which assigned; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications: May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.
