Labor Relations Officer 1 Position Overview

Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities is seeking a Labor Relations Officer 1 to support critical labor relations processes, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements and promoting effective communication between employees, management, and unions. In this role, you’ll assist with grievance resolutions, disciplinary actions, and labor-management meetings while maintaining accurate records and staying current on labor laws and policies. If you’re detail-oriented, analytical, and dedicated to excellence in labor relations, we’d love to hear from you.

Most positions offer the flexibility of a hybrid schedule that combines working from home with regular in-office and/ or community presence. In-person work requirements may change for training, meetings, and other operational needs. Employees must reside at a location that allows for reasonable response time to workplace reporting requirements.

Labor Relations Officer 1 Duties

  • Assist with grievances, disciplinary actions, and appeals by gathering and analyzing facts, preparing documentation, and making recommendations.
  • Support labor-management meetings by coordinating schedules, organizing materials, and taking meeting minutes.
  • Ensure compliance by managing documentation in various systems, including personnel files and labor relations databases.
  • Coordinate random drug and alcohol testing schedules
  • Maintain labor relations reports, update seniority rosters, and ensure compliance with license requirements.

A Successful Labor Relations Officer 1

  • Demonstrates knowledge of public relations, human relations, and/or business operations.
  • Can apply analytical reasoning to define problems, collect data, and make informed recommendations.
  • Is proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications and office equipment.
  • Honors diversity and fosters inclusiveness.

Employee & Labor Relations Unit Overview

The Employee & Labor Relations (ELR) unit ensures that agency operations are in compliance with applicable union contracts and all federal and state laws, rules and regulations. It also administers grievances, investigations, disciplines, mediations, and arbitrations.

Qualifications

2 years' experience in personnel/human resources management which involved training in labor relations/collective bargaining.

-Or Completion of two-year technical program or undergraduate major program core coursework in human resources management or public or business administration that included coursework in human resources or labor relations.

-Or equivalent of education and/or experience per Minimum Class Qualifications noted above.
