What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Health Nurse Specialist position at State of Ohio Jobs?
Supports the state-wide Pregnancy Associated Mortality Review (PAMR) system: PAMR is an advanced surveillance program which identifies and reviews pregnancy-associated deaths with the goal of developing interventions to reduce maternal mortality, particularly for pregnancy-related deaths; Provides medical/clinical technical assistance, nursing consultation and direction on the various aspects of planning, organizing and implementing Pregnancy Associated Mortality Review; Coordinates record requests of cases (e.g., medical, social service, law enforcement) per O.R.C.3701.14; screens case files for completeness and prepares case files for data abstraction; Conducts medical/clinical data abstraction and preparation of case summaries of clinical data for all pregnancy-associated deaths in Ohio; Participates in PAMR case review meetings by serving as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and documenting discussion and committee decisions; Abstract case information into the PAMR database: oversee the case data and ensuring information is accurate; Participates in the development, monitoring and evaluation of strategic plan for PAMR activities.
Assists in responses to internal and external requests for program information (data, presentations, etc.) from students, local health departments, other state PAMR programs, CDC, professional organizations, and other local, state and national entities; Develops reports of PAMR activities, recommendations and quality improvement materials; Assists in the dissemination of program materials to internal & external stakeholders (e.g., data, reports, summaries of activities; Collaborates with national and local nursing organizations and government offices to assist in the further development of the PAMR project.
Maintains on-going communication with the Centers for Disease Control Division of Reproductive Health and CDC Foundation Maternal Mortality Review programs to receive updates on policy and procedures set forth by CDC, data for CDC national reports, information on conferences, trainings and additional funding opportunities.
Monitors PAMR issues through the review of computerized and other data, professional literature, and programmatic reports and makes program recommendations to supervisors and local health agencies; Acts as a liaison between PAMR Board and governmental, voluntary, professional and business organizations and agencies for the purpose of PAMR initiatives; As assigned, serves as a member of a disaster recovery/business resumption team, incident response team, or similar public health response team which may include the conduct of operations on a 24/7 basis at remote locations.

Supplemental Information
Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be the minimum salary of the salary range 12 (step 1, currently $30.37 per hour) associated with this position.

Proficiency Instruments/Assessments may be required for this position; Applicant must demonstrate proficiency with a passing score to move on to the structured interview portion. Regardless of a passing or failing score, all results will be maintained for 6 months. Applicant with a passing score will be retained and utilized this 6-month period. Applicant with a failing score in the same classification may not re-take the same selection assessment for this 6-month period.
Travel required, as needed. Must provide own transportation or, in order to operate a state vehicle, you must have a valid driver’s license.
