Official Position Description:
Generates standard detailed drawings used in construction, maintenance & planning of transportation projects & assists in review of highway & bridge plans, contracts & cost estimates in order to ensure technical accuracy. Modifies or recommends changes to consultant plans involving roadways, culvert replacements, minor structures, signing, roadway illumination &/or right-of-way. Under supervision of higher-level engineer, uses personal computer (e.g., Computer-Aided Design & Drafting (CADD)) & applicable standard techniques & applies knowledge of soils, slope of land & availability of existing drainage & structural design in order to establish precedents for meeting estimated load requirements &/or improve efficiency, safety, economy & environmental compatibility. Provides technical support to engineers, designers, realty personnel & utility personnel in design & development of standard highway construction & right-of-way plans.
Provides technical engineering assistance. Performs duties in conjunction with plan preparation including review & revision of designs, generation of reports & cost estimates, coordination of necessary field work, performance of calculations (e.g., profile grade, vertical &/or horizontal curves, right-of-way parcel closures), & research of records (e.g., existing roadway plans, property records). Confers with higher-level engineers &/or technicians in order to gain assistance in resolving unusual problems.
Meets with general public, government officials & property owners in order to provide project-related information. Reviews roadway & right-of-way plans & calculations performed by others. Participates in preconstruction meetings & field reviews of project sites in order to collect data &/or confirm existing information. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

- Or 12 mos. exp. as Transportation Technical Specialist, 85871, with experience to be commensurate with position to be filled.
- Or equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.
