What you'll do at OhioMHAS : Population aged served - 18 years & older; may be required to work mandatory overtime; this position requires valid practical nurse license by Ohio Board of Nursing Education & Nurse Registration; must also have one of the following to verify appropriate preparation to administer medication : Practical Nurse Educators (OOPNES), or Ohio Board of Nursing; serves member of a multi-disciplinary team, performs skilled practical nursing procedures & treatment to clients assigned to unit : applies sterile dressing; collects specimens as directed by physician; assists physicians with physical exams & treatments; assists in emergencies (e.g., first-aid, restraining patients, code assists); administers controlled (e.g., narcotics, minor tranquilizers) & non-controlled (e.g., aspirin) medication in oral, rectal or injection form; provides medication instruction to patients; facilitates & supports Mental Health Recovery for individuals with severe & persistent mental illness.Maintains all medication for clients assigned to unit : utilize Ohio Department of Mental Health& Addiction Services approved office productivity software, approved intra & Internet resources & information systems in a appropriate work related manner as specified in the NBH Personal Computer Usage Guidelines for Employees; updates & maintains medication accountability records; charts medication given to clients in patient medical charts; prepares & counts medication; maintains medication stock, equipment & supplies for unit.Provides general nursing & direct care to client & newly admitted clients assigned to unit : takes patient vital signs daily or as directed; assists client with personal hygiene, bathing, or daily living activities; administers topical ointments & solutions, eye, ear & / or nose drops; assists with or escorts patients to treatments, appointments & / or hospital recreational activities; provides one to one group activities according to the individualized treatment plan.Provides assistance & / or direction to lower level nursing staff : gives work direction, orientation & training to other LPNs, nurses aides assigned to unit in providing general unskilled nursing care (e.g., dressing, bathing, feeding); attends & participates in Active Treatment Groups; attends & participates in treatment team meetings, providing information regarding alterations in patient behavior; plans & recommends changes in treatment plans as indicated by patient's responses to treatment & medication; attends all relevant meetings, training classes, seminars & in-services; maintains mandated competencies.Observes, documents & reports clients condition in chart, progress notes & other reports : makes observation & documents client response to group; document client response to medication, treatment & other activities & progress; prepares unusual incident reports, patient records, medication reports, seclusion / restraint logs; makes appointments for clients; orders & / or delivers personal supplies (e.g., shampoo, soap, pens) to clients; performs clerical tasks (e.g., filing, duplicating, answering phones).This is an hourly position covered by the OCSEA / AFSCME bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of #10 on the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours are Variable DAYS, and Variable SHIFT(s). This position is located within our Northcoast Behavioral Healthcare in Northfield, Ohio.Unless required by any applicable union contract and / or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1.License to practice nursing as a licensed practical nurse issued by Ohio Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723 Ohio Revised Code & proof of completion of an approved course in medication administration.Note : Licensed Practical Nurses who administer dialysis treatment must possess Certification in IV Therapy pursuant to Section 4723.17 Ohio Revised Code.Job Skills : NursingAll eligible applications shall be reviewed considering the following criteria : qualifications, experience, education, and active disciplinary record.
