The Oklahoma Historical Society, Research Library is seeking candidates for a Librarian I position. This position will work directly under the supervision of the Archival Collections Manager of the Research Division. Excellent verbal and written communication are essential for this position, as well as the ability to multitask.
The Oklahoma Historical Society, Research Division provides genealogical and historical research services to library users. As a National Archives affiliate, founded in 1893, our collections offer many unique items related to Oklahoma history from pre-statehood and beyond. We are a public service division dedicated to providing a quality customer experience. While assisting researchers, we provide a multitude of services to patrons via telephone requests, correspondence, and inhouse. In addition to fulfilling customer needs, we collaborate as a team seeking opportunities to collect, preserve and share, the history of Oklahoma and its people.
Key Duties
Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited program and 1-2 years of library experience.

Key Duties
- Creates original cataloging records for unique materials in conformance with international standards; maintains quality control of databases of library records.
- Accessioning new collections
- Deaccessioning materials as per agency policy
- Working with donors to bring in new collections
- Numbering and labelling items as needed
- Collections management in collaboration with public services and the collections manager; reviews and evaluates published materials and recommends material for purchase
- Digitization of materials
- Ascertaining copyright of materials
- Processing patron research requests as needed
- Collection retrieval for patrons
- Overseeing volunteer projects
- Preforms basic preservation tasks such as rehousing items, dusting, emptying dehumidifiers and cleaning where necessary
- Prepares and maintains records and reports
- Makes presentations to professional organizations, plans, and develops training for patrons and staff
- Represent the agency at statewide programs
- Must be able to work independently and with a team and multitask
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365
- Knowledge of MARC original cataloging is a requirement
- Must be familiar with RDA cataloging practices
- Experience with Sydney Enterprises is a plus
- Must be familiar with OCLC and World Cat
- Capable of learning new software programs and technologies
- Must be able to assign Library of Congress call numbers
- Initiate, organize, and self-direct work responsibilities
