The Law Librarian exercises primary responsibility for the administration and management of the Rhode Island Supreme Court Law Library and four (4) county law libraries by providing research, reference, and bibliographical assistance to the courts, state government agencies, attorneys, self-represented litigants and citizens of the state. The Law Librarian provides strategic vision, establishes the goals and objectives of the Law Library, directs the daily operations, and supervises the staff of professional and non-professional assistants. The position supervises, administers, and directs all library services, evaluates, plans, organizes, and implements library policies and procedures. The Law Librarian also analyzes technology trends to ensure the library's growth and development, including but not limited to, innovative practices in library systems, web design and digitization; coordinates library services with the information systems of other court departments, agencies, and outside vendors; implements upgrades to the library's digital resources; tracks new developments in AI for implementation within the library’s collection; develops and writes grant proposals that will advance the library's objectives; manages and supervises all library personnel; ensures appropriate staffing levels at all library locations. The Law Librarian maintains proper fiscal control over library expenditures. Must maintain an active presence in professional library organizations and with other research libraries and must manage the Law Library’s participation in the Federal Depository Library Program. In addition, the Law Librarian may be called upon from time to time to lead educational seminars for various audiences, to advise state agencies on their purchase of legal reference materials, and for any other related duties as may be assigned by the State Court Administrator.
The position of Law Librarian requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science preferred and a minimum of seven years professional and administrative experience in a law library. Proficiency in legal research and all digital n database searching platforms is required. Must have working knowledge of OCLC, MARC format; and Microsoft Office and an understanding of metadata and other digitization standards. Must possess excellent managerial, organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. The position of Law Librarian requires an in-person daily working commitment.
Salary : $110,850 - $128,714
