What are the responsibilities and job description for the STEAMFITTER SUPERVISOR position at State of Rhode Island?
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: To lay out and supervise the work of Steamfitters employed in the installation, maintenance, repair and alteration of all types of piping systems, fittings and related equipment; to participate in the performance of Steamfitter's duties; and to do related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Receives work assignments from a superior with considerable latitude for the use of independent judgment in the application of the practices and techniques of the trade; work is reviewed usually upon completion for satisfactory performance.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises the work of Steamfitters, helpers and others assigned to assist.
To lay out and supervise the work of Steamfitters employed in the installation, maintenance, repair and alteration of all types of piping systems, fittings and related equipment in connection with low and high pressure steam, hot water, air and gas systems for heating, ventilation and other purposes.
To supervise the work of subordinates engaged in the adjustment and repair of thermostatic heat control systems, the plastering and painting of structures through which piping systems run, and the welding and soldering of various fittings and connections.
To make periodic surveys of all steam lines (high pressure in particular), check hangers, vibration, drip lines and traps for hazardous conditions to insure proper operating conditions; and to requisition materials and set up a program for standardization on all materials required.
To make cost estimates of labor and materials.
To keep time records of subordinates, and other records; and to make reports on work projects.
To participate in the performance of steamfitter's duties.
To do related work as required.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES: A thorough knowledge of the practices, techniques, tools, equipment and materials used in steamfitting work, and skill in the application of such practices and techniques; a working knowledge of pertinent safety measures and precautions; skill in the use of steamfitter's tools and equipment; the ability to lay out work from plans and specifications and to supervise the work of subordinates; the ability to make rough sketches and simple designs; the ability to make estimates of material and labor costs of work projects; and related capacities and abilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: Such as may have been gained through: completion of ten school grades; and
Experience: Such as may have been gained through: employment as a journeyman steamfitter.
Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
At the time of appointment must possess appropriate pipefitter's license and must maintain such license as a condition of employment.
