Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the Central Energy Supervisor, the incumbent operates boilers in the Central Heating Plant and other university locations during heating season and performs repair / maintenance activities as instructed.
- Operates one electrical high-voltage boiler, two gas-and-oil-fired boilers and two gas-fired boilers in the Heating Plant and assists with boilers in other university locations as may be required to ensure safe, efficient and continuous delivery of steam and heat.
- Monitors boiler operations; immediately reports any abnormalities or problems observed; makes adjustments to boilers or controls as instructed; troubleshoots problems to determine whether an adjustment is needed or there is a system failure; and makes the necessary adjustment or reports the failure.
- Performs preventive and semi-routine maintenance on boilers and related mechanical equipment, as instructed; performs internal inspections; and assists in preparing boilers for annual inspection and testing.
