What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building/Grounds Specialist II position at State of South Carolina?
Assist in maintaining grounds, roads, and sidewalks, to include: (A) seeding. fertilization and treatment of lawns, (B) fertilization, pruning, spraying and general care of landscape plants and trees, (C) mowing grass, edging walks, etc., (D) removal of debris, maintaining storm drainage, (E) replace dead or damaged landscape plants, (F) removal of ice, snow, and other debris from sidewalks. Assist in the implementation of landscaping and irrigation by (A) preparing site, layout and installation of plants, trees and sod, (B) repair and replace broken sprinkler heads and lines, (C) remove dead or damaged portions of trees that do not require a tree specialist. Under supervision. spray for weed control. Assist in maintaining parking lots by patching pot boles, painting lines and stencils, and maintaining signage around roads and parking lots.
Makes daily inspection of irrigation systems for leaks or sprinkler malfunctions. Report major issues to supervisor. Performs daily preventive maintenance and minor repairs to grounds equipment and any specialized vehicles being used. Operates specialized vehicles for disposal of debris generated by the maintenance of ground such as limbs, grass clippings. and construction debris.

High school diploma and two (2) years of related work experience; or 10th grade education and three (3) years of related work experience. A valid SC driver's license is also required. Experience in custodial, housekeeping or pest control work that is directly related to the area of employment.
Must be able to use trade tools and equipment. Must have knowledge of typical grounds equipment use and maintenance. Must be familiar with OSHA safety policies and procedures for use of grounds equipment and for landscaping work.

Salary : $23,257 - $39,590
