What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certification Assistant position at State of South Carolina?
The South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (Academy), Certification Unit is currently seeking a Program Assistant. Plans, coordinates and performs administrative activities and assistance in CJA Certification Unit. Assists with programs in implementation, interpretation and support of the Training Act and Training Regulations governing law enforcement training and certification in South Carolina.
- Review and process documents submitted electronically for completeness and correctness. Monitor certification and compliance tracking of SC law enforcement officers mandated annual in-service training, and certification renewals. Reviews and processes the Mandatory Retraining Notification (MRN) forms and ensures accuracy of reporting and compliance with regards to the SC Training Act.
- Processes Personnel Change in Status (PCS) forms of Hires on a daily basis.
- Acadis Checks - Responds to requests and/or inquiries from law enforcement agencies/investigators relating to certification and employment verifications prior to hire, to include SLED Backgrounds.
- Add training hours for Coroners School and Sheriff School annually.
- Directs and assists SC Agencies in an advisory capacity via phone and email regarding regulation and administrative procedures to ensure compliance and enforcement of the SC Training Act and Training Regulations.
- Back up for Transcripts requests, Certification Equivalencies, Reserves and Constables. Backup for reviewing the Cumulative Rosters, Issuing Certifications for graduated Mandated Training Rosters.
- Other duties as assigned by Program Coordinator, Certification/Registration Manager or General Counsel.
- Type at a rate of 40 WPM with 97% accuracy
- Use of the ACADIS system
- Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook. Must have excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to exercise of independent judgment and discretion about matters of significance for CJA. Operates under general supervision as needed/requested. Independent thinker that can resolve problems by referencing the SC Training Act and the Training Regulations.
- Private work area. Busy but positive work environment. Must be organized and detail oriented. Little to no travel.
