What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communications Manager position at State of South Carolina?
This employee will be responsible for maintaining the Agency statewide communications system and radio communications center.
Job Duties Include:
- Scheduling installations, removals, maintenance and repairs for communications and electronic equipment used to support routine and specialized operations of the agency.
- Coordinating with commercial or other authorized vendors for purchase of communication and electronic equipment.
- Coordinating technical expertise for testing, acquisition and improvement/expansion of the existing communication system.
- Ensuring the communication system and users are in compliance with department, FCC, local, state and federal regulations/requirements, some of which are civilian restricted and confidential in nature.
- Responding immediately to situations in which communications equipment (repeaters/consoles and radios) have malfunctioned that may impact officers' safety.
- Coordinating preventative maintenance and testing necessary equipment.
- Updating all DNR radios with appropriate program/channels.
- Maintaining an organized work space and warehouse for all communication equipment.
- Maintaining all department issued equipment.
A bachelor's degree and three (3) years practical experience in electronic technology, or an associate's degree and four (4) years of experience, or a high school diploma and six (6) years of experience.
Thorough working knowledge of the SCDNR current communication system (mobile and portable) repeaters and console systems, including but not limited to High Band, Low Band, the 800 MHZ system, satellite, dish (canopy) systems. Employee should be technically capable of coordinating the installation, maintenance and repair of all components of the communication/electronic equipment utilized by DNR. Ability to work with limited supervision, and be highly motivated with positive work ethic. Ability to research and understand the knowledge of state and federal (FCC) guidelines, regulations and compliance requirements. Ability to create, install, and disassemble complex communication systems for emergency situations, special events, and other operations as requested. Ability to remain knowledgeable of all current advances/changes in technology in the electronic and communications industry. Degree/certification in electronic technology (communication systems specific) or equivalent training preferred.Salary : $46,655 - $86,321
