What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communications Specialist position at State of South Carolina?

S.C. Commerce’s Marketing and Communications Division is looking for a talented professional to serve as the agency’s Communications Specialist to serve as the agency’s primary social media coordinator and provide comprehensive communications support to help promote efforts to further economic development in South Carolina.
The competencies and responsibilities of the Communications Specialist are outlined below.
- Assist in development of agency’s annual social media strategy, including performance tracking measures, to support S.C. Commerce’s strategic goals and further reinforce the Launch to Legacy brand.
- Create and maintain social media calendars (monthly and annually) with a balance of relevant topics.
- Develop, deploy and monitor agency’s social media content including researching and writing posts (collaborating with appropriate internal and external stakeholders) and curating and/or creating supporting content (i.e., graphics, videos, images, etc.) – while ensuring overall awareness of relevant conversations and timely engagement.
- Ensure deliverables are accurate, engaging, timely, relevant and consistent, aligning with the appropriate writing style and voice (dependent on channel/usage) and agency brand guidelines.
- Report social media analytics to include recommended strategy/tactic adjustments to meet identified goals.
- Develop (research, writing, proofreading) and deliver at least one monthly e-newsletter and other written communications including but not limited to social and web content, talking points, articles, and collaterals.
- Support current digital marketing campaigns, including website optimization efforts, to ensure cohesive integration throughout division’s communications and/or marketing channels.
- Assist in maintaining the division’s comprehensive content calendar.
- Provide proofreading support for division deliverables.
- Support Marketing and Communications Division needs through special communications programs.
- A bachelor's degree and at least four (4) years of professional experience related to the development and dissemination of informational material.
- Prefer a bachelor’s degree in marketing or communications and experience in economic development and/or government.
- Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Must have excellent writing (grammar, composition, style), editing and proofreading skills and be proficient in Associated Press Style.
- Must have the ability to gather, organize and present written information in a clear, concise, creative and accurate manner – with strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Must have experience developing, deploying, monitoring social media campaign and analyzing analytics, across multiple platforms to identify trends and help inform decisions.
- All candidates must submit at least two samples of relevant work including social media and other written communications. ONE SAMPLE MUST BE SOCIAL MEDIA. Examples must be no more than one year old.

Salary : $46,655 - $86,321
