Job Responsibilities
The person in this position will coordinate and support the implementation of Child Early Reading Development Education Program (CERDEP) programs and deliver professional development for state-wide, regional, and school-based audiences on the science of reading. Model research-based teaching practices, incorporate adult learning theory, and drive continuous improvement through data collection and analysis. Early Learning Specialists will travel to CERDEP schools four (4) days per week. Carry out effective monitoring (timely accurate data collection, analysis, and reporting) CERDEP monitoring of regulations to ensure timely collection of high-quality program data. Plan, develop, and deliver professional learning opportunities (PLOs) for all levels of personnel at the district and school level in support of early learning and literacy. Collect and analyze relevant data collected to assess strengths and needs in order to focus on systematic district and school change and to inform program improvements and make recommendations for program modifications. Evaluate and make recommendations for resources, program design and changes to bring about desired outcomes. Devise a plan in collecting data by increasing the number of early childhood programs that have made quality improvements since review. Assist in the development of delivery of activities required for the statewide implementation of early childhood education programs; including the development of program guidelines, regulations, and monitor activities with early learning team; collaborate with the Office of Instructional Supports and agency staff to improve the integration of seamlessness of service provided by the agency as a whole; seek out ways to coordinate agency activities across office and divisions. Serve as agency liaison with school district personnel, other education professionals, parents and representatives from the private sector related to early learning and literacy. Collaborate and communicate effectively orally and in writing in a timely manner with internal and external audiences. Perform other duties as assigned by Senior Staff, Office Director, or Team Leader.
This position is located in the Office of Instructional Supports.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A Bachelor's degree and experience in education, management or business.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in education with three (3) years of documented successful experience teaching literacy, OR a Bachelor's degree in education with five (5) years of documented successful experience teaching literacy with a minimum of three (3) years of at the State, District or School level.
- Valid South Carolina Educator Professional License.
- Successful experience facilitating adult learning and delivering professional development specific to literacy instruction.
- Experience mentoring, coaching, and providing feedback about instruction to classroom teachers.
- Experience leading others in a collaborative process.
- Experience analyzing and using student achievement data for instructional purposes.
- Experience in school and district curriculum, and assessment.
- Ability to travel on a daily basis.
