It is the mission of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to impact and transform young lives, strengthen families, and support safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation.

JOB PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, the Employee Relations Coordinator, working under the guidance of the Employee Relations Director, will perform employee relations activities to include coordination of the Agency's internal grievance process, initiating back pay requests, and performing some administrative functions within the Employee Relations Department. Provides programmatic and project support to the department.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reviews Employee Relations (ER) actions in HR portal and assigns to the appropriate Employee Relations Consultants. Reviews ER Outlook mailbox and assign the actions to appropriate staff.

Reviews and processes Job Abandonment letters and Level I Reprimands. 

Retrieves unemployment documents from the SCDEW portal and process actions based on the established deadlines and forwards unemployment appeal requests to the appropriate Employee Relations Consultant.

Reviews ER complaint log and ADA accommodation requests and ensures timeframes for completion are met according to the established guidelines. 

Researches ADA accommodation requests and coordinates processing with Employee Relations Consultants and Workers Compensation Coordinator. 

Tracks the progress of ER complaints and ADA accommodation requests and provides weekly updates to the ER and Benefits Director.

Provides basic responses to employees or managers on employee relations inquiries. 


Forwards complex questions to Employee Relations Consultants. 

Assists the Benefits Manager with special projects as needed.

Files employee relations documents on assigned day and performs other related job duties as requested by the ER And Benefits Director and Human Resources Director.

STATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor's degree and relevant experience. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


Knowledge of principles and practices of human resource management. 

Knowledge of the relevant human resources policies and procedures and of agency policies and procedures. 

Knowledge of federal laws and state regulations affecting human resources. 

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. 

Ability to analyze needs and to recommend and communicate solutions effectively.

This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.  

Must be able to remain stationary for extended periods of time and have the mobile dexterity to lift up to 25 lbs. 

PREFERRED AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:


A bachelor's degree and experience in employee relations, i.e. ADA, disciplinary actions, unemployment insurance, and other HR related matters.

Salary : $38,985 - $72,134
