What you will do :

As a Fraud Analyst you will perform examinations of Individual Income Tax returns to identify potential fraudulent taxpayers, through utilizing knowledge of Individual Income Tax law with a focus on the security of taxpayer data.

Primary job duties include :

  • Reviewing and processing returns on the fraud edit list, which includes identifying potential fraudulent returns, corresponding with the taxpayer, and researching for additional fraudulent leads.
  • Making online adjustments to the system to generate fraud assessments and letters.
  • Communicating with taxpayers to explain return adjustments.
  • Preparing referrals for the SCDOR Criminal Investigations Division, including gathering data, writing up reports, and providing any additional information needed.
  • Receiving phone calls from taxpayers and other employees reporting tax issues, then researching these issues to refer them to the appropriate SCDOR sections.
  • Minimum and Additional Requirements

    Either :

  • A bachelor's degree with multiple accounting courses (transcripts required) OR
  • A bachelor's degree and one year of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation and / or analysis OR
  • An associate's degree with three years of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation and / or analysis OR
  • Relevant experience or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis with an approved equivalence by the Division of State Human Resources (DSHR)
  • Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • 12 semester hours in accounting, audit, or other business-related subjects
  • Basic knowledge of South Carolina tax laws, forms, and online computer systems

  • H ours : Flexible hours may be available from 7 : 00 a.m. - 6 : 00 p.m., Monday - Friday (37.5 hours per week).
