What are the responsibilities and job description for the Funeral Services Instructor position at State of South Carolina?
Job Summary: Under general supervision of the Dean of Business and Public Services, you will be responsible for delivering quality instruction and coordinating the Funeral Services program. You must demonstrate knowledge of subject matter being taught and hold valid teaching credentials as defined by SBTCE and SACSCOC criteria.

Valid driver's license required. May be required to teach evening and weekend courses at the main campus and off-campus instructional sites. May work additional hours during peak registration periods.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching Performance: Provide students with a course syllabus, grading/attendance policy, and other relevant information in a timely manner. Relate instructional practical examples and illustrations; pace the instruction over the semester; provide students with timely tests; return test results in a timely manner; relate tests to course objectives; follow acceptable department and college grading policies. Participate in conducting a college student evaluation for at least one section for every course taught annually.
- Instructional Development: Develop and maintain course documentation; review and select textbooks for courses in subjects' area; maintain audio-visual and/or other materials for courses taught through any medium; be organized and well prepared for class; schedule class and lab time effectively. Coordinate weekend and summer events and activities. Order supplies for curriculum. Manage the budget for the program.
- Student Advisement: Maintain required office hours; publicize office hours and availability; refer students to other persons for appropriate assistance; maintain appropriate records; meet with students in a timely manner; display sensitivity to students' needs and problems.
- College and/or Community Service: Assist with recruitment as required; assist with job/transfer placement recommendations as required; cooperate with or participate in projects/activities of other instructional and support areas in fulfillment of the College's mission; serve effectively on college/community committees.
- Instructional Management: Submit reports in a timely manner; arrange physical environment as much as possible for effective learning; adhere to class schedules; provide effective classrooms/lab supervision; maintain accurate records; provide disciplinary action where appropriate.
- Professional Development: Develop an annual professional development plan in conjunction with the supervisor; attend courses/seminars/workshops as required or planned; write manuscripts or present papers at conferences, etc.; complete research projects in the subject field.
Requirements:
- An associate degree in mortuary science or related field.
- A graduate of an ABFSE program.
- Possess a South Carolina Funeral Director/Embalmer License or be able to reciprocate to an SC license prior to starting.
- A minimum of three years of embalming and restoration art experience.
