This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, CM Tucker Nursing Care Center, 2200 Harden Street, Columbia, SC 29203.
As the General Maintenance Technician III, working under general supervision of the Nursing Home Administrator, employee will be responsible for the supervision and daily operations of C.M. Tucker Vehicle Management Transportation Services. Provides Driver Improvement Training and Mobile Medical Unit Operators training to SCDMH employees. Serves as the Facility Key Control Monitor and Pest Control Monitor. Assists with maintaining Flags located in front of Roddey and Stone Pavilion.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Supervises the operation of the Transportation Services Section (TSS). Manage the TSS Communications Specialist I and three (3) Equipment Operator II's. Coordinates and approves employee working times, leave, overtime, on-call roster, and travel submissions. Develops schedules, establishing work priorities, and monitor daily driver trips and assignments via fleet GPS software.
Manages facility's Transportation Vehicle Fleet. Oversees the scheduled emergency maintenance. Monitors monthly mileage logs and provides monthly reports to DMH Vehicle Management. Manages credit card for vehicle fuel purchases fueled. Maintains accurate records and .lfilpects invoices for each vehicle number and gas purchases by authorized employees. Ensures all vehicles are clean, maintained and adequately fueled.
Manages inventory of facility keys to include key distribution to approved facility employees and monitors key return for separated employees. Maintains key distribution records to ensure an accurate account. Ensures keys are kept in stock and orders when needed. Responsible for the keying and rekeying of doors of the facility.
Oversees facility's Pest Control contract. Schedules weekly Pest Control Operator inspections of facility interior spaces and makes rounds with vendor during inspections to monitor process and ensure a11 areas of concern are addressed. Maintains accurate records of all scheduled and emergency t control operator inspections.
Collects and reviews violation notifications and submit them to the Accident Review Board (ARB). Serve as ARB Co-Chairperson and Vehicle Management Safety Liaison. Conducts training for DMH employees on vehicle safety inspections and responsibilities while operating a state vehicle.
Inspects eye wash stations throughout the facility to ensure eye wash stations are working properly by flushing the system on a regular basis.
Maintains operation and condition of Flags located in the front of Roddey and Stone Pavilions. Monitors flags condition and replace as needed.
Obtains and installs signs throughout the facility.
Assists the Homelike Environmental Team by mounting TV's, hanging pictures, boards, clocks, etc. Removed broken or unserviceable furniture and reports more difficult maintenance needs to supervisor. Assess the units and notes needed repairs; may perform minor repairs as needed. Provides assistance as needed to move offices.
Performs Courier duties as required. Handles certified mail to be metered at DMH post offices, then transport to outside Post Office for distribution. Obtains orders for postage stamps from cashiers and purchase stamps.
Agency Minimum Requirement: A high school diploma with a minimum of two (2) years relevant program experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required program experience. Must have a current CDL with Bus endorsement or able to obtain one within six (6) months of hire.

Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
The selected candidate must have considerable knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Office products. Must be able to work independently, establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate effectively with others. Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures relevant to the area of employment. Ability to exercise judgment and discretion. Be able to effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion. Must be able to sit, stand, squat, kneel, lift 35lbs and climb steps unassisted in order to perform duties required. Must be able to work or be on-call evenings, nights and weekends. This position is considered essential; must be available to work holidays, on-call, and during periods of inclement weather.
