What are the responsibilities and job description for the Highway Maintenance Worker - Crew Leader (61031645) position at State of South Carolina?
Acts as crew leader when the crew is dispersed and leads the crew in the absence of the foreman. Responsible for the placement of pavement markings, such as stock bars, arrows, crosswalks, and railroad crossings or thermoplastic. Responsible for the repairing, replacing and installing of signs requiring manual labor such as digging holes and drive posts, etc. Operates medium and heavy duty equipment in the maintenance and construction of state maintained roads, highways and bridges. Operates power tools such as chainsaws, drills, and augers requiring to be able to dig holes and drive posts, etc. Flags traffic and assists with setting-up work zones. Operates fork lift in loading and unloading signs and material. Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations, may include extended hours and/or 12 hour shifts. Operates a standard dump truck with snowplow attachment during required operations.Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
