What are the responsibilities and job description for the Highway Maintenance Worker I - Small Equipment Operator (61033890) position at State of South Carolina?
Performs a variety of vegetation management activities using equipment such as a tractor with mower. Performs skilled manual labor and operates small equipment, such as a tandem dump truck in a variety of activities associated with the repair and preservation of roads and bridges in the state highway system. Coordinates the placement of traffic control devices to properly set up a maintenance work zone according to the SCDOT Work Zone Traffic control and Field Guide to warn motorists. Performs manual labor to assist with installing and repairing catch basins and other drainage structures. Picks up litter, debris, and dead animals. Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations; includes being available for extended working hours or 12-hour shifts, day or night. Performs other related duties as assigned.There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards.
