Nurses assigned to G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital are currently eligible for a 15% supplemental pay along with their base salary as long as they remain an employee with G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital, 220 Faison Drive, Columbia SC 29203.

As the Licensed Practical Nurse, working under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, you will provide direct patient care to an assigned area.

Responsibilities for this Licensed Practical Nurse include but are not limited to:
  • Provides safe and therapeutic direct patient care considering patient needs, cultural and social differences, age, and specific educational needs.
  • Transcribes physician's orders accurately; safely administers medications and treatments; documents patient's response tendencies.
  • Participates in area-based Performance Improvement activities and evaluates the quality of patient care, effectiveness of nursing practice, and outcomes of care.
  • Uses therapeutic communication and demonstrates age-specific competencies reflecting knowledge of cultural diversity in caring for patients. Assists in establishing and assuring that the lodge environment is safe, clean, and therapeutic with consideration of age, culture, and practice.
  • Provides for patient treatment and other patient care activities.
  • Acquires, maintains, and demonstrates current knowledge of policies, procedures, directives, and Nursing Practices needed to provide quality patient care.
  • Attends at least 20 hours of training per year in addition to all mandatories.
Successful completion of a nursing education program for professional nursing or an equivalent course of study from a licensed practical nursing education program per Section 40-33-32 of the South Carolina Nurse Licensure Act. Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the State Board of Nursing for South Carolina.Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.    The selected candidate must have knowledge of basic nursing procedures, infection control, and health and safety practices. Must be able to work within the Department philosophy and mission. Ability to maintain therapeutic and professional relationship with patients and staff. Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds; ability to stand, walk, reach, pull, push, stoop, bend and climb at least two (2) or three (3) flights of stairs. Ability to tolerate noise level and circulate in patient areas for long periods. Must be able to work with patient behaviors. Must be able to work beyond scheduled hours as required to meet safe staffing standards/regulatory requirements.

Salary : $52,000 - $72,134
