What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lieutenant II (#015092) Broad River Correctional Institutional, Columbia (RICHLAND) Level 3 position at State of South Carolina?
Under general supervision of the Warden will be responsible for the all contraband interdiction efforts and the gathering of correctional intelligence.
Conducts routine, unannounced, and/or pre-scheduled searches and shakedowns of inmates, living areas, grounds, and other areas.
Assists the agency search team, special operations k-9 unit, and office of inspector general k-9 teams while they are onsite.
Be knowledgeable of the logging and accountability process of contraband items.
Completes necessary training to perform drug testing of all inmates and confiscated drugs.
Ensures that all policies, rules, and regulations pertaining to the chain of custody are followed and that all evidence/contraband confiscated is logged in on the "unauthorized property log".
Conducts at least monthly inspections/searches of all roof tops for weapons/contraband.
Gathers information from institutional staff and inmates concerning possible contraband violations.
Responsible for any other duties assigned by the Warden.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
(Or an acceptable equivalence as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).
Three (3) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
A degree in Criminal Justice or a related degree may substitute for Supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
