This position is located in the Support program area within the Public Health Laboratory.
Prepares ordinary to complex biological culture media, chemical reagents, and biological stains using written formulas and instructions under aseptic techniques and conditions for the appropriate laboratories. Operates a variety of laboratory equipment, including autoclaves, and performs manual procedures. Serves as the backup person for the collection, decontamination and disposal of bio-hazard waste from testing laboratories
Follows quality assurance protocols by monitoring and maintaining of the laboratory's environment and equipment and personnel competencies.
Serves as member of the Public Health Laboratory’ Laboratory Response Network (LRN), the Food Emergency Response Network (FERN), the Bio-detection System (BDS)Program, and other public health partnerships for response to bioterrorism and other infectious disease outbreaks.
Prepares and sterilizes deionized water for appropriate laboratories.
Minimizes the potential for contamination in the work area by performing daily housekeeping. Performs basic clean up and disposal of infectious and medical waste in compliance with OSHA regulations, EPA and the Laboratory Exposure Control Plan.
State Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree in a related medical or scientific discipline; or an associate degree or equivalent training in a related medical, scientific or technical discipline and journey-level work experience in a related field.
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
