Job Responsibilities
With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.
This position is located at the Department of Mental Health - G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital, 220 Faison Drive, Columbia, SC 29203.
This position MAY be eligible for SCDMH Student Loan Repayment to cover some of the cost of your outstanding loan(s) balance asso ciated with the completion of a healthcare degree that is relevant to the appliable position.
As the Mental Health Professional II, working under the general supervision of the Program Manager I, you will provide psychological services (both diagnostic and treatment related) to adult psychiatric inpatient population.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
- Provides active treatment by conducting therapeutic groups to assigned patients.
- Conducts individual therapy for referred patients, provides consultation to the treatment team regarding progress and ongoing needs.
- Completes discipline specific admission assessments, consults with treatment team regarding treatment needs.
- Creates individualized Positive Behavioral Support Plans (PBSPs) in conjunction with the treatment team and provides ongoing support.
- Completes Designated Examiner's Exams as assigned by the court.
- Monitors individuals' practices to ensure that auditing standards are met.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as assigned.
- Completes all trainings as required (SCEIS during birth month).
- Provides weekend, holiday, evening and hazardous weather coverage as needed and / or assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A master's degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field and professional experience in a mental health, human service or social service program.
Preferred Qualifications
A master's degree in a clinical field, such as Clinical or Counseling Psychology or Counseling, Mental Health Counseling and / or Social Work; possession of license in SC as a professional counselor (LPC, LPC-A), or licensed master's level social worker (LMSW).
Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
Additional Comments
The selected candidate must have knowledge of psychopathology, assessment and individual / group therapy. Ability to relate well to acute and chronic mentally ill patients in a hospital setting, as well as work collaboratively with members of other professional disciplines. Must be able to move freely around the campus and have adequate computer skills to complete duties. Weekend and hazardous weather coverage on rotation as assigned. Certification in evidence-based modalities such as EMDR, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, substance abuse specific treatment, etc.
