Job Responsibilities

If so, then this position could be a great opportunity for you! The South Carolina Department of Agriculture is hiring a Milk Safety Officer! As a Milk Safety Officer , you will inspect facilities dedicated to milk production, including dairies, and packaging to ensure the proper sanitary practices are being followed. Your duties will include :
- Ensuring milk and milk products are manufactured, packaged, and marketed under safe and sanitary conditions. This includes verifying that products are wholesome and free from contamination, filth, or otherwise unfit substances as well as properly labeled according to current laws and requirements.
- Completing compliance graded inspections of permitted and non-permitted facilities and initiating actions to ensure compliance with state and federal laws including Regulation 61-34 and Regulation 61-34.1 governing milk and milk products within the state.
- Implementing monitoring / sampling activities in accordance with state and federal laws.
- Maintaining all required Quality Assurance / Quality Control activities including but not limited to proficiency testing and standardization.
- Conducting complaint investigations in accordance with applicable Standard Operation Procedure and program guidance.
- Providing complete, detailed reports of inspections, and outlining any necessary enforcement action.
- Investigating suspected cases of foodborne illness and collaborating with industry stakeholders in investigations.
- Providing programmatic consultation to food service industry personnel and other stakeholders.
- Performing pre-operational inspections and issuing permits for new facilities.
- Ensuring adulterated products have been recalled / withdrawn from market when adulteration / contamination is suspected / determined.
