What are the responsibilities and job description for the Off-Park Ranger position at State of South Carolina?
Located in Plum Branch, South Carolina, Hamilton Branch State Park occupies a peninsula on the 70,000-acre Lake Thurmond. Thanks to activities such as fishing, boating and lakefront camping, the park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts looking to spend time on the water.
Campers can reserve one of more than 150 spacious, lakefront camping sites, an ideal spot for shoreline fishing. Anglers looking for deeper waters can access the lake via two private boat ramps and fish for bass, bream, striper, catfish or crappie.
Job Purpose and Duties:
Under general supervision, assists with overall operation and maintenance of a State Park. Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the Department. Assumes the responsibilities of the Park Manager in the absence of higher level employees.
1) Assists with park administrative duties in accordance with Department policy and procedures and planning of long and short-term goals.
2) Collect and account for revenue and produce required reports.
3) Perform routine and preventative maintenance on grounds, buildings and equipment to meet established standards and maintain a safe work environment.
4) Manages assigned specific operations to include public use areas, retail operations and facilities. In charge of the inspection of the campgrounds and Campground Volunteer program.
5) Assists in inventories of equipment, supplies and retail items by issue, use and counts; provides a variety of office functions related to callers, correspondence, reservations, and revenue collection.
6) Interprets the cultural and natural resources of the State Park Service to park visitors.
7) Practice and promote teamwork within the work unit/office, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.
High school graduate and two (2) years of related experience.
Additional Requirements:
1) Duties involve standing, bending, sitting, reaching, talking, and hearing. Operation of a computer, typewriter, fax, telecommunications equipment, cash registers and related equipment.
2) Ability to operate a variety of office equipment. Computer knowledge and skills preferred.
3) Ability to deal tactfully and cordially with the public and to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
4) Must possess a valid S. C. Driver's License.Experience in public contact work preferred. Actual Job Location: Hamilton Branch State Park.
