With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Morris Village Alcohol and Drug Addiction Treatment Center, 610 Faison Drive, Columbia, SC 29203.As the Peer Support Specialist / Direct Support Professional I, working under general supervision of the Nurse Manager and Day Treatment Counselor, provides specialized therapeutic care for clients based on individualized treatment plans within a day treatment program.Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Transports clients to various appointments, NA, AA, and off-campus activities as needed. Conducts support meetings and develops recovery strategies when meeting with the treatment team to establish a treatment plan. Provides care for clients with substance abuse issue(s), i.e., coaching and emotional support individually and during support group sessions assigned by the Counselor. Demonstrates knowledge of therapeutic communication skills and considers age-specific competencies and culturally diverse patients. Demonstrates knowledge of Standard Precautions and performs Quality Control Environment Checks. Assists in caring for patients with physical problems. Participates in maintaining a clean and therapeutic environment by being productively occupied at all times and meeting the patients' needs. Adheres to all Corporate Compliance Policies/Procedures, provides quality care, and maintains accurate documentation. Maintains compliance, as appropriate, with policies covering Cultural and Population Specific Compliance, Corporate and HIPAA Compliance, Harassment-Free Workplace, PPDs, and Training.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
State Minimum Requirement: A high school diploma or GED.Agency Minimum Requirement: A high school diploma or GED and experience as a nursing assistant. Completion of a state-approved peer support training program. Certification as a peer support specialist (PSS).
