Under general supervision of the Job Challenge Deputy Director. Plan, develop, coordinate, and implement career/job skills preparation for students in the Job Challenge program (JC). Advises students regarding career interests and strategies, job search methods, resume preparation and related matters including personal and professional development. Provides career development assistance through creating individual employment plans with goals and objectives by conducting assessments and collecting information on clients. Assist students in the job search and advise them on procedures for obtaining employment. Promotes employment and advocates for students with the business community and industry. Identifies barriers and develops solutions for individuals seeking employment and/or an upgrade in skills. Organizes and attends job fairs and hiring events. Engage and actively partner with students from admissions to employment with activities such as: mock interviews, professional workshops, resume writing, and workforce preparation. Provides supportive job readiness training and feedback to modify/improve worker traits which lead to a successful employment outcome for the client. Develops working relationships with community resources in order to provide referrals to partner agencies and community organizations. Maintains updated case management records and appropriate documentation. Schedules and conducts workshops on job skills for the students in JC. Perform all other duties as assigned.A bachelor’s degree in a related field. A high school diploma and experience in career counseling or related case management may substitute for the required bachelor’s degree.
A master’s degree in career counseling/development or related field and 4 years of relevant experience.Knowledge of agency policies, procedures, regulations and program services. Knowledge of fact-gathering methods and interviewing techniques. Knowledge of community resources. Knowledge of modern casework and counseling techniques. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate effectively, written and orally. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and to develop credibility. Ability to organize and maintain a caseload. Ability to exercise discretion in interpreting and applying established objectives. Ability to develop and deliver presentations. Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a high demand job. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals, families and representatives of other professional disciplines.
